Internship Opportunities

The ASPIRA Association offers a variety of internships to undergraduate and graduate students who would like to work with those issues that affect and are important to the Latino community of the United States, in addition to gaining valuable experience in a national non-profit setting.

The ASPIRA National Office, located in Washington, DC, will provide students with the opportunity to work in areas that are of important concern to the Latino community: parent involvement, health policy and legislation, youth leadership, community service, and math and science education. For example, interns develop our public policy newsletters, youth leadership development materials, research and compile statistics relating to the status of Latino education, and attend meetings, briefings and conferences. Positions during the Spring and Fall semesters are unpaid—academic credit is available.

The following internship opportunities are available:

- The Everett Internship Program
- Public Policy Internships
- ASPIRA Technology Initiatives Internships
- Internship Program Contact Information
- ASPIRA Monitoring and Evaluation of Financial Programs Internship

Through a grant from the Everett Public Service Internship Program, summer interns receive a weekly stipend ($200) and are also provided with the opportunity to network with peers interning at other organizations and agencies in Washington, DC. A series of brownbag lunches and forums are scheduled for all of the Everett interns working in Washington—throughout the summer you will have numerous opportunities to gain insight into the field of public service and establish valuable contacts for post graduate careers. Background: The Aspira Association, a national Latino youth organization, works to empower the Puerto Rican and Latino community through advocacy and the education and development of its youth. Aspira has received a grant through the Citigroup Summer Internship Program to support a paid summer position within Aspira's Community Wealth Development Initiative (CWDI). CWDI currently consists of three corporate-sponsored programs dedicated to enhancing general financial education, developing entrepreneurship skills for youth, and providing an overview of insurance for youth and adults. Each program provides bilingual, culturally-sensitive information to the communities Aspira serves in the United States and Puerto Rico. With all three programs entering their second year of implementation, Aspira is poised to expand and deepen its outreach. Additionally, the organization is seeking to address other areas of economic need within the Latino community through new education programs in homeownership, retirement planning, and saving for college.

Position Responsibilities: The Monitoring and Evaluation (M&E) Intern will perform a detailed impact assessment of Aspira’s three financial education programs under the Community Wealth Development Initiative. He or she will gather quantitative and qualitative date on each existing program while performing basic feasibility studies on areas where Aspira hopes to expand.

The expected outcomes are as follows:
1) Gather information on the impact of Aspira’s financial literacy programs
using:
a. Aspira’s internal Management Information System (reports demographic
information on participants and trainers);
b. Evaluation sheets completed after each workshop;
c. Interviews with participants, trainers, administrative staff and
executive directors at each implementation site.
2) Compare actual results with expected results in proposal and program
reports;
3) Determine if current evaluation materials are sufficient or suggest
modifications;
4) Rate each program (by site) in terms of meeting or exceeding internal and
external requirements. Designate “model” sites based on specified criteria.
5) Develop recommendations to improve and expand the implementation of
existing programs based on “model” experiences;
6) Conduct interviews with personnel at each Aspira Associate to identify
the current un-addressed financial education needs in the community each serves;
7) Recommend areas for new financial education initiatives;
8) Research local and national funding opportunities in these areas.
