By Profesor Martin Danenberg “El Quijote del GED”
Dr. Patricia Mooney, GED Test Administrator in New York State and I had another conversation the other day and she asked me to get the word out about the new GED test in 2012. The GED test will change in 2012 and the word on the street may turn off the hopes and dreams of hundreds of thousands of adults annually for years to come. Take the GED now and study with the GED Hotline. The test will be slightly harder, but I encourage everyone to take advantage of this great opportunity anytime. The sooner the better is better for you and your family, especially in this tough economy.
The GED test, unfortunately, is made harder because of the raising of standards in the high schools. In the last decade or more, we have seen more students drop out because of the raising of standards (sometimes failure on one test in high school causes it and some youth decide to take the GED after dropping out from their failure). At this moment in history as more students dropped out, there has been a huge decline in the number of GED diplomas since 2002. More than half a million few diplomas have been issued during this period. This has weakened the United States and no secretary of education has intervened to help the people. I will be calling upon the next secretary of education to make a difference in the lives of millions of Americans. The office of the secretary can put the word out in meetings and conferences all over the United States without aid of a flyer or even a PSA or Public Service Announcement that people should do the GED now (spreading the word to Title One Programs, churches (making the White House Faith Based Initiative much stronger than the previous one), and community based organizations. The initiative that I am recommending will save the United States billions of dollars annually.
TAKE THE GED NOW. I AM A VENDOR OF THE DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION OF THE CITY OF NEW YORK, HELPING ADULTS. TITLE ONE FUNDS ARE BEING DESIGNATED TO HELP PARENTS EMPOWER THEIR CHILDREN THROUGH THEIR OWN EDUCATION. PARENTS WHO HAVE NOT EVEN BEEN TO SCHOOL TO ATTEND MEETINGS ARE COMING INTO SCHOOL NOW TO GET THE GED PROGRAM. ANYONE THOUGH CAN OBTAIN MY PROGRAM.
Over two hundred thousand people fail the GED and working together we can eliminate this problem. Older adults, of course, fail the GED more often than younger ones. People in our cities have a high failing rate and people in our prisons have a high passing rate (they have very little else to do but study and learn…many more are studying the Bible and most of those people should be studying both the GED and the Bible). The City of New York is urging a tripling in the number of GED test takers over a four year period and the recommendation is for everyone to take the OPT or Official Practice Test before taking the real test. That OPT is an important part of my GED program: however yesterday I told a young man who called me just to go take the GED. He has passed a large number of regents exams and I concluded that he has an excellent chance of passing the test right now. Why should I hold up his dream to enter college?
