Samuel Durham and Omar Rosete talk and text at least once a month about school, sports, and life in general.
It's hard to imagine how far the relationship between this young student and his mentor has come in just four years.
As a freshman at Booker T. Washington High School, Durham, now 20 years old, was court ordered to enter Rosete's Crime Prevention Program after an error in judgment landed him in legal trouble.
Dr. Vallejo, an ASPIRAnte from the Bronx, NY, has over 30 years of experience in higher education. She is currently Provost at Palm Beach State College. She has served as Vice President of Academic and Student Services at Nassau Community College, and Vice President of Student affairs at Rockland Community College in New York. She says that ASPIRA made an important contribution to her success.
With Internet access becoming increasingly vital for success at school, at work and at home, ASPIRA of Florida, Inc. has joined in Comcast's efforts to bring affordable Internet service to the millions of students and families on the wrong side of the digital divide.
According to the Pew Research Center, only 41% of those with household incomes under $30,000 have broadband at home. The goal is to reach all families living without this essential technology.

On April 16, 2010 the ASPIRA Club at Palm Beach State College was honored at the College's annual Academic/Service Excellence Awards Ceremony. The ASPIRA Club recieved the "Student Organization of the Year Award" for conducting successful ASPIRA events in the areas of community involvement, political awareness, and for their progressive support of the College's initiatives.
