Newark Councilman Anibal Ramos, Jr. Partners with ASPIRA for Opening of Youth Boxing Club (August 20, 2008) NEWARK--- North Ward Councilman Anibal Ramos, Jr. partners with ASPIRA Inc of New Jersey for a grand opening of the ASPIRA youth Boxing Club on Friday, August 22, 2008 at Noon at ASPIRA, 390 Broad Street, Newark, NJ.This facility will offer local youngsters the opportunity to learn and practice the competitive and disciplined sport of boxing."The Boxing Club will give youth the ability to learn the finer art of boxing as well as provide recreational boxers guidance from volunteer trainers," said ASPIRA Executive Director Carlos Valentin Jr. "This program has drawn national support from greats such as Las Vegas-based Hall of Fame Referee Joe Cortez, who will serve as an advisor for the ASPIRA Boxing Club."North Ward Councilman Anibal Ramos Jr., who is a former youth member of ASPIRA is a proud supporter of the boxing gym. On behalf of the Newark Municipal Council, Ramos will present a donation at Friday?s ceremony to the ASPIRA Boxing Club. Joining at the ribbon cutting ceremony will be Councilman-at-Large Luis Quintana; State Senator Maria Teresa Ruiz; the New York State Athletic Commissioner Melvina Lathan, and the U.S.A. Boxing of New Jersey President Jose Rosario. "We are so excited to support this boxing club because it is a well needed activity to enrich our young teens. It provides a wonderful training environment for those who are truly interested in the sport of boxing and it introduces newcomers at the same time,? says Ramos. ?We must continue to support endeavors like this one that provides extra curricula activities for our older teens after school.?
