Aprendamos Ingles

Aprender Inglés es de gran importancia para todos los Latinos. El Inglés es sin lugar a dudas uno de los lenguajes de mayor importancia en el mundo y es el lenguaje internacional de negocios y ciencias. Por tanto, para ser exitoso es imprescindible conocer este idioma.

Los siguientes recursos han sido seleccionados y clasificados con el propósito de asistir a usted en el aprendizaje del Inglés o en el mejoramiento de sus destrezas en el idioma. H.R.1794 Families Learning and Understanding English Together Act of 2007

Title: To improve the literacy and English skills of limited English proficient individuals, and for other purposes.

Latest Major Action: 7/9/2007 Referred to House subcommittee. Status: Referred to the Subcommittee on Healthy Families and Communities.Highlights: Authorizes grants to providers of family literacy services to improve the literacy and English skills of limited English proficient individuals who are parents or children in families where at least one child is under age eight. Certain funds reserved to: (1) provide technical assistance and training to such grantees; (2) make grants to, or enter contracts with, national organizations that have family literacy service expertise to provide grantees with technical assistance and training; and (3) evaluate and improve such grant program.

Grant eligibility: Grants are provided to family literacy providers to partner with one of the following: a local education agency, elementary school, secondary school, or nonprofit organization. Grants are awarded for 1 year and can be renewed for a total of 5 additional years.

ASPIRA Policy Position

ASPIRA supports family literacy services for Limited English Proficient Parents.

ASPIRA is concerned about the five year limitation on grants and the average grant size.
