Dr. Vallejo, an ASPIRAnte from the Bronx, NY, has over 30 years of experience in higher education. She is currently Provost at Palm Beach State College. She has served as Vice President of Academic and Student Services at Nassau Community College, and Vice President of Student affairs at Rockland Community College in New York. She says that ASPIRA made an important contribution to her success.
Dr. Vallejo received her Ph.D. in Bilingual Curriculum Development/Higher Education from New York University. She earned two master's degrees from Columbia University and her bachelor's degree from Hampshire College. She attained the top position of Provost at Palm Beach State College's first and longest established campus at Lake Worth in 1999. The campus offers both Associate and BAS degree programs and has served the central Palm Beach County area for over 77 years.
Dr. Vallejo has been instrumental in providing advocacy and support to organizations such as ASPIRA of Florida and of Palm Beach, the Puerto Rican/Hispanic Chamber, who awarded her the 2009 Shining Star Award, the Women's Chamber of Commerce, which honored her with their Giraffe Award in 2007 as well as the Executive Women of the Palm Beaches who honored her with the Women in Leadership Award in 2010. She was one of the 12 women honored in South Florida as a "Hispanic Woman of Distinction".
Nationally, Dr. Vallejo was honored as one of the "20 Mujeres of Distinction" in the 2004 Hispanic Outlook in Higher Education, and she recently completed her tenure as the president of the National Community College Hispanic Council (NCCHC), in which she actively promoted and supported the Council's annual Leadership Symposium, bringing together promising Latino leaders for national mentoring, training and networking.
