ASPIRA of Illinois Board of Directors has appointed Aníbal L. Taboas as president and CEO of the organization. Previously, Taboas served as executive consultant on strategic planning and leadership within the public and private sectors, including Hispanic-serving educational institutions. He also served in the senior executive service, where he managed large systems, national programs and major facilities including Argonne National Laboratory. He is a Fellow of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers, author of over 50 publications and is recognized internationally for his work in environmental management.

Taboas brings the recognition that a school has the power to change the lives of young people in ways big enough to match the dreams we have for our children. To that end, he will emphasize an organizational direction that encompasses shared governance, defined goals, data driven decision making and accountability at ASPIRA of Illinois.

“Empowering students to become contributing members of society goes well beyond classroom education; however, nothing is more important than enabling success in the classroom, and graduating college-ready individuals capable of pursuing their dreams” Taboas said.

Taboas, born and raised in San Juan, Puerto Rico, has formal training in physics, mechanical and nuclear engineering, and management; and has completed advanced leadership training in Corporate Governance at Harvard University and Strategic Planning at the Brookings Institution.
