In order to address the need for the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) to provide hands-on consumer education to populations most unprepared for the June 12th digital television transition (DTV), a group of leading national Hispanic grassroots organizations – all members of the Hispanic Technology and Telecommunications Partnership (HTTP) - jointly submits a collaborative quotation with the ASPIRA Association to serve as the fiscal agent. Together, ASPIRA, the League of United Latin American Citizens (LULAC), the Hispanic Federation, and the National Puerto Rican Coalition will leverage their existing local community based educational and technology service centers and network of grassroots center staffs to provide walk-in help to serve targeted populations, focusing on Hispanics, non-English speakers, low-income, and senior citizens in the most unprepared geographic locations in the region. The walk-in centers will provide hands-on demonstration and training seminars/workshops and walk-in assistance in English and Spanish as needed; provide printed, DVD, and Internet-based educational materials; and provide access to the internet for people to request converter box coupons and other pertinent educational materials. The centers will be accessible by persons with disabilities.
Hours of Operation
- Centers will be open and staffed between the hours of 4 and 8 p.m. on Fridays, and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturdays and Sundays.
- In the 14 calendar days prior to June 12 (beginning May 29) and for 7 calendar days on and after June 12 (June 12 – June 19), each center will be open every day at least from 12 to 8 p.m.
