That's the penalty for not having your seat belt properly buckled at all times- for drivers and all passengers in front and back seat

 

 

 

Partnership for Traffic Safety

  • Motor vehicle crashes are the leading cause of death for Hispanics under the age of 44 and the third leading cause of death for all ages surpassed only by heart disease and cancer (NHTSA 2003).
  • Seat belts reduce the risk of fatal injury by 50%. Child safety seats reduce the risk of death by 71% for infants and 54% for children, ages 1 to 4. Seat belts saved over 13,000 Americans in 2001 (NHTSA 2003).
  • It is illegal in every state for persons under the age of 21 to purchase and publicly possess alcoholic beverages. In support of these laws, it is illegal for persons under 21 who have been drinking to drive (NHTSA 2001).
  • The use-lose statutes make it illegal for anyone under the age of 21 to purchase, possess, transport, or consume alcohol (NHTSA 2001).
  • The mix of alcohol and roads will always yield trouble for drivers, pedestrians and passengers. In 2002, an estimated 17,419 people died from alcohol-related crashes - an average of one death every 30 minutes. These deaths constitute 41% of hte 42,815 total traffic fatalities (MADD 2003).
  • Alcohol use is America's No.1 youth drug problem (MADD 2003).
  • All 50 states now have zero tolerance laws, which make it illegal for anyone under 21 to drive with any measureable amount of alcohol (maximum of 0.02 BAC) in their bodies (MADD 2003).

Harness straps at or below shoulder level
Harness straps should be at or above shoulders

Most seats require top slot for forward-facing
Belt positioning booster seats must be used with both lap and shoulder belt.

Make sure the lap belt fits low and tight across the lap/upper thigh area and the shoulder belt fits snug crossing the chest and shoulder to avoid abdominal injuries
